« A decent, safe, standard and accessible place to live for every household" is the main theme of this year’s celebration. The annual celebration of World Habitat Day has been held in Madagascar since 2006. The residence goes far beyond the four walls, encompassing both the residence and the surrounding world. The SENVH (Sekreteram-panjakana tanàna Vaovao sy Toeram-ponenana), supports and promotes research results related to "innovative" building materials and techniques, especially those that will reduce construction costs while respecting the required standards and quality..

The celebration was marked by stands and various campaigns at the BAREA Mahamasina Stadium. Prizes were awarded to researchers in innovative building materials and techniques from SENVH and NEXTA. The Ecole Supérieure Polytechnique d’Antananarivo (ESPA) and the Institut Supérieur Polytechnique de Madagascar (ISPM) presented their research on the recycling of waste paper into building bricks. The construction of houses and walls out of clay was also presented by the ESPA Community. It concluded with the announcement of the launch of the "residence" competition with the Malagasy Order of Architects and the Malagasy financial institution SOLIDIS. In the competition for the best research on building materials, ESPA won first prize for the reformulation and improvement of the Tambohon’ny Ntaolo manufacturing technique for its valorization into raw earth bricks and second place for the valorization of cellulosic waste into building materials.
